Can't wait til June to see what's coming to iOS 5 though.

Same here, I loved the "expose" like view in that video a while back...Android has a similar page view and its wonderful. Anyhoo, I really hope the iP6 has a bigger screen (up to 4" with minor bezel) to facilitate said functionality

In the 2 years I've had an iPhone, I haven't once visited a website that has needed Flash. Personally I really don't care if the iPhone gets it or not. It does the sites I need.

All this is, is Apple thinking it knows better than the consumer, a Steve Jobs mentality. I like his thinking but I'd like to see an actually push by Apple to make things better then.

Integrate motion sensors! With a flick of the wrist, the page will turn. Hot Damn!
Heh, and just like a real book, if there's a sudden draft, all the pages will flick past and you'll lose you place.

Considering that one of the first uses for most new technologies (such as the "book" and "moving pictures") has traditionally been porn, why not have an emergency "boss" or "wife" button to flick to a boring business report or something else preconfigured. Of course that might only work if they don't know of the feature themselves. iPorn. Gotta Love It.

    2 things

First, It's understandable to complain about the lack of EDU discounts on the new upods. Apple has ALWAYS given an edu discount... even for new products. To take that away now stinks.

Second, though these nanos look nice, I'm a little wary about the screen. If anyone remembers way back, that Apple is going to be using OLED technology instead of the normal screen.
    here's the original rumor article:
    http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/07/20060712182701.shtml

    For those lazy, I'll quote
OLED displays draw significantly less power than traditional TFT-LCD displays used in current iPod models, as they do not require a backlight (each pixel directly emits its own light). OLED contrast ratio's are generally considered far superior to LCD displays because the pixels can display true black when off. However, OLEDs are not well suited for outdoor use, and have a limited lifespan.

While I'm happy that this is probably the reason for the increased battery life, I'm concerned about the life span of the screen. How much of a limited span are we talking about?

Edit: according to wikipedia, 5,000 hrs. For comparison, a typical LCD has a life of 50,000 hrs (30,000 hrs for lamp).

Interesting... I was about to edit my last post that Apple's site doesn't claim the Macbook has any slots... I can't see any in the Macbook QTVR images either.
    It's a USB wireless card.

Seriously, boys. This thread is an amazing pile. "You hate Apple." "No, I don't, you hate hackers." "It's Apple's fault." "It's Bob's fault." "You got your chocolate in my peanut butter!" Blah, blah blah....

It's just a typical security report. Get your panties out of a bunch and have a glass of water.

I will say, the Page 1 report is rather misleading, considering the video. MacRumors should probably modify that.

With the lack of CD with any of the iPods, does anyone know if you have to download iTunes now prior to connecting your iPod or, as one person I know suggested, you connect up the iPod and it installs from there and prompts you to do a restore after?

Just want to know for those who will be looking to buy this weekend, but do not have access to the internet yet and/or have slow dial-up.

I can't directly answer your question 'cause I had already installed iTunes 7 when I plugged in my new silver nano.
Nontheless, the weird thing is that when I first connected it I was prompted to get a software update for it: a 20+MB update that made my dial-up choke.
It seems strange that the newest product doesn't feature the latest software on it... and the only supported software AFAIK.

OTOH, the update for my 5G was a small 6MB one.

That thread is full of some of the most comical and short sighted statements you'll ever see. Good thing Steve Jobs obviously knew what he was doing a lot more than the forum posters of the time did. That's why I laugh at some of the more critical comments you see on some of the threads today as well. In 10 years they'll look just as comical and short sighted as those do I'm sure.

So true. That's why Steve Jobs is where he is and all the naysayers and criticizers are where they are.

This statement makes no sense whatever. I reject the revisionist myth, but I do not need permission from the revisionist myth to reject it. Circularity, thy name is mscriv.

Of course in the first place, the "god has given you" assertion is irksome. You are apparently not even able to say "you have free will", it has to come from your god person. I mean, I understand where you are coming from, you have to realize that constantly attributing everything to your god person actually tends to detract from what you are saying.

I'm sorry fellas, I'm not trying to be "irksome" and I must admit Skunk your "circularity" comment made me chuckle. From the many discussions we've had you both know that I believe God to be the creator of all things, so when I make statements like "God has given you..." it's simply a reflection of that belief. I fully recognize that you, and many others, don't hold this belief, but I fail to see how it "detracts" from my argument as opposed to demonstrating consistency in my view.

For example, Skunk if very consistent in his proposition that the Bible is a revisionist book written by man with a specific human agenda in mind. In many discussions I've seen him post comments about the polytheistic history of the Canaanite people. That's one of his key points and he will continue to say so as he feels it is an important piece of evidence for his view. Sydde, I've seen you make similar arguments regarding the historical hypocrisy and negative history of religious institutions and people. I'm sure you will continue to hold to this line of thinking as it represents a kind of "proof" to you regarding your views.

We must admit that in these discussions we bring different sources of authority to the table. Some of the things I point to as evidence are meaningless to you and some of the things you point to as evidence are meaningless to me and it's no different in the scholarly community.

I enjoy these discussions immensely and I learn a lot by participating in them, but please know that my intention is not to change your mind. I simply wish to represent Christ well and give a defense for my faith. I fully recognize that many will see the defense as foolish as the belief itself, but I'd like to think that people will respect the consistency between my beliefs and the genuineness in my interaction with them. There's nothing worse than someone who professes a belief and lives contrary to it.

That's great. Apple would become the dumbed-down childrens computer company.

In other fora, people say that is a good thing. They go on and on about their stupid neighbor who hates computers and "cannot" use a computer, but who nevertheless loves iOS.

And Apple never made much profit until iOS hit the scene.

Dunno. But if Apple went in that direction, I would be unsurprised. There are a whole lot of naive users with extra bucks to spend on simple stuff.

Here in Brazil we have high taxes. Taxes are high and public services are of poor quality. The cost of labor is quite high, due to all the labor bureaucracy that punishes both employers and employees. The purpose of mounting the iPads here in Brazil is that they would not be able to pay some import taxes and enjoy some tax incentives that the Brazilian government grants to companies that assemble their products in national territory. Furthermore, we live in a fake democracy, in which the State is only concerned with lining their own pockets, leaving the needs of the Brazilian people in the last plan. That since 1500.

Personally the Zune is looking fairly attrective right now. Ever since the 5th Gen iPod came out everyone has complained that it needed to be widescreen and have a bigger screen. I don't care for the WiFi sharing really but you have to admit the interface looks pretty nice.
I don't have to admit any such thing..

In a free and prosperous market, business exists and is done solely because it is profitable. When it ceases being profitable, it must be stopped. To keep pouring 100 units of money into something for the sake of getting 10 units of money out via payroll can only end in one thing....failure. (I'm using 'units of money' as a general example)

And that is fine, but from a practical standpoint, as I said, you must figure out how to deal with localized economic distress caused by cuts in the military. You also have to deal with the fact that the military controls access to some really impressive weaponry. Take these two things together, the prospect of sudden poverty and ghost towns and the prospect of a bunch of rather testosterone-amped cowboys having their guns taken away, to me that looks like a recipe for major disaster and probably the reason the Pentagon's budget is so difficult to rein in.

I certainly have no problem with the idea of wasting a whole lot less money on "defense". I just think the realities of such cuts need to be looked at from the big-picture perspective.

Apple is at the core a software company.
    Go read their SEC filings.

    They make money selling hardware.

An operating system is a big complicated program that lets other big complicated programs co-exist peacefully on the same system. However, Apple does not generate much revenue from software sales. If they did, it would be a separate line item in their financials and they would probably need to disclose more information about software sales, since such a large part of the increase in shareholder value would be dependent on it.

Same deal with iTunes Store sales, App Store revenue, MobileMe subscriptions, etc. Not a major part of their bottom line. Apple uses software and content to drive sales of their high-margin hardware.
