    I'm just going to throw this very quick (and shoddy) rendering I made into the mix, portraying a possible "tabletop" iMac.

    http://i453.photobucket.com/albums/qq257/Ryuinfinity/imactouch.png

    That looks great, and would be fine for touch-input (if it has wrist-wrests); but that's a horrible angle for a screen: you'd have to crouch over it to use it. Fine for very short usage, but would be incredibly uncomfortable for any kind of regular use.

    There's a simple, fundamental problem with combining touch-input and a screen into one surface in desktop computer, and no amount of clever design can get around it:

    The ideal touch device is near-horizontal. The ideal screen is near-vertical. Unless/until we evolve a convoluted spine or an extra arm joint, you cannot combine both into one surface, without having a horribly uncomfortable user experience.

    The iDevices work because they can be held in one hand and adjusted. I wouldn't want to try that with an iMac!

    The only way I can see anything like this happening, is if this new iMac is more of a dockable "iPad". Sit it into the dock and you use it as an iMac with full OSX functionality. Pull it out and take it with you, and it's a (slightly heavy!) iPad.

    Now that I think about it, that might be pretty cool. No need to sync your Mac and your iPad, they're the same device!

    I hardly think you know what percentage of the time these programs are abused.

    Are these programs sometimes abused? Certainly and it's a problem but unless you have numbers don't claim that these social programs are largely in vain.

    I will claim that food stamps are mostly abused. I don't have numbers, but I have eyes, and have known several people that have received food stamps. I have had people I know, as well as strangers, ask me if I would buy their food stamps. I wish food stamps were limited with what you could buy, something like the way WIC does.

    Agreed. Dream prices:

    20"= $450
    24"=$600
    30"=$1000

    They could always fill the $2k dispay spot with a 50", HDTV Capable display that supported 20 million pixles :D

    Would be nice to see those prices, but not in the next 3 years lol.

    Would be interesting to see able phase out the 20" LCD, just have 24", 30", and a 41 or 42" LCD. All would be HD. True it be nice with the iSight, but arent they working on a new one anyways?

    Also when are we going to see Blu-ray in Mac's? Hopefully sometime in 2007.

    I have a feeling Apple going to phase out the 17" iMac. So it might give us room for a 30" iMac, anything possible. Thing is if Apple updates the Mac Mini too much, it be the similar to the iMac and pretty much the same price. Would be interesting to have a larger HD, better graphics chip in the Mac Mini. I still like the iMac, seeing its all in one.

    I've been going thru these forums for about a year now. I find good posts and opinions but I hate these snide comments from people. Not everyone is as tech savvy as many who post here. I'm sick of scrolling past these guys that have nothing better to do than mock others.

    Honestly, if the iPad 3 has 3D anything then it will have jumped the shark. The only time Apple has done that in the Jobs II era is when it put polka dots and tie dye designs on the iMac. But that was also a time when Apple was far less in control of its destiny. I can't see Apple resorting to 3D gimmicks, at least at this stage of the iPad when there is so much to improve.

    Again, the military is inextricable from the economy. Not only are large sectors heavily dependent on military spending (like the town of 150,000 just west of me, that would utterly collapse if its two bases were closed), but a weaker military would risk tremendous losses in international commerce as foreign nations take back control of their own markets and resources absent the pressure of potential American military action.

    If you want to cut the military budget significantly, you had best have a really good plan in place to deal with the consequences. I think it is unlikely that our brand of "capitalism" would last long without a strong Pentagon.

    (Which could be a good thing, in the long run, but a treacherous bridge to cross.)

    In a free and prosperous market, business exists and is done solely because it is profitable. When it ceases being profitable, it must be stopped. To keep pouring 100 units of money into something for the sake of getting 10 units of money out via payroll can only end in one thing....failure. (I'm using 'units of money' as a general example)

    Obama is quite within his rights according to the War Powers Resolution (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Powers_Resolution) ...

    The War Powers Resolution requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30 day withdrawal period, without an authorization of the use of military force or a declaration of war. The resolution was passed by two-thirds of Congress, overriding a presidential veto.

    That is if America is under immediate threat, hence Bush's big case about WMDs before invading Iraq. America was under no threat from Libya. The President cannot simply go to war because he feels like it. That is definitely not a power he has by the Constitution but it is a power he'll take nonetheless. The Executive branch has taken more and more power away from the legislature and, most of all, the people and I don't think it'll stop until things get much worse.

    I really hope he isn't under the Keynesian impression that war is good for one's economy. This is the mark of an empire in decline.

    TechCrunch has posted another lengthy report (http://techcrunch.com/2011/03/28/apples-big-fall/) detailing what it is hearing about Apple's plans for the fifth-generation iPhone and iOS 5, now both rumored for release closer to a "fall" timeframe than the traditional June/July timeframe seen in past years.

    Perhaps the most notable information comes at the end of the article, revealing that sources have said that Apple's April 2010 acquisition (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/04/28/apple-purchases-iphone-personal-assistant-company-siri/) of personal assistant software company Siri is set to bear fruit in the form of "deeply integrated" artificial intelligence (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/01/steve-jobs-on-siri-acquired-for-artificial-intelligence-technology-not-search/) and voice control for iOS 5, a change that could potentially transform the way iOS devices are used.A year ago, Apple bought Siri, a virtual personal assistant startup that had released a very cool iPhone app. The Siri team and technology are now said to be a big part of iOS 5.

    The use of Siri's artificial intelligence and assistance technology is said to be deeply integrated into the OS for all the different services offered. And the team is now putting the finishing touches on the elements that will be demoed at WWDC, we hear. This tech may also be opened to developers for use in third-party apps - though that information isn't quite as concrete.The report also notes that a fall release for new iPhone hardware provides Apple with additional time to incorporate LTE 4G capabilities, speculating that a desire to add LTE may even be the reason for the shift in release schedule compared to past years.TechCrunch contributor Steve Cheney (who nailed the timing of the Verizon iPhone last year), believes that a fall iPhone 5 launch makes LTE much more likely. He currently puts the odds at zero to ten percent for LTE if the iPhone 5 launched this summer (again, not happening), 50 percent if it comes in the fall, and 100 percent if it comes in January.

    A fall timeframe would give Apple a more vetted and lower power Qualcomm chip for LTE, Cheney says. When the Verizon iPhone was unveiled in January, Apple COO Tim Cook addressed the LTE issue directly. "The first generation LTE chipsets force some design compromises. Some of which we would not make," he said. If Cheney is right, that may not be such an issue later this year.The report notes that Apple waited to adopt 3G technology until is had significantly matured, opting to release the original iPhone as an EDGE-only device despite relatively widespread 3G coverage available at the time. But at that time the iPhone was a completely new concept for smartphones setting the stage to remake the industry regardless of whether it was an EDGE or 3G device. In the much larger and much more competitive smartphone market today, Android devices are already moving to LTE and Apple may not wish to wait until mid-2012 to introduce its own LTE iPhone.

    It is strange that MS don't seem to have given us a common table of comparison, I wonder why?

    I have no intention of switching to Vista from Mac OS X, but just for my own amusement I would love to see a table of comparison for the five different versions of Vista, because aside from the Data Encryption all that the *ULTIMATE* version seems to have is a Photo Programme, a Movie Maker, and a Media Interface, and the upgrade version costs twice the amount of OS X, which has superior photo and movie apps. And for people without XP the price is phenomenal.

    The basic doesn't even have the much flaunted "aero" interface, what does it look like then without it, and why miss off such a defining feature of your new OS from one of its versions?

    I'm glad that I don't have to make the choice between the different versions and that I made the simple choice years ago to choose Mac over PC.

    (BTW, do they need permission to use this name from Cadbury, in the UK aero is a type of chocolate bar with loads of air bubbles in)

    Sh**!
    My iphone 4 takes better pictures than any high end or low end sony camera I played with at best buy. The camera on the phone is just effing awesome.

    You either played with broken cameras or didn't know how to use them. Don't get me wrong, the iPhone 4 camera is pretty darn good, best I've used on a phone by a long shot, but in no way does it compare to a high end camera. I think maybe you were simply fooled due to the higher DPI of the retna display vs the screen on the digital camera. Rest assured if you look at them using comprable displays or even better, in print, there would be no comparison.

    Uh, they've sold the iPhone 4. Who care WHERE you get it, it's still an iPad.

    Because getting your iToy within eye sight of a 300 Lb round-belly hillbilly or 400 Lb woman in pink stretch pants and camel toe does not make for the best experience.
